Back by popular demand! Now a mixed-level class, open to beginners and continuing students.
Learn how to weave using recycled materials in this set of seven 1.5-hour sessions that meet in the West Orange Public Library. Participants will create their own works of art by interweaving yarn with plastic and fabric strips from recycled materials. The program is geared toward older adults and is guided by two goals—to have participants develop a new artmaking skill through a sequential learning process and to create social engagement opportunities through the process of learning and making mixed material weavings. The first six sessions consist of classes led by the teaching artist. On the seventh week, the course culminates in a presentation of the finished artworks to which participants’ family, friends and members of the library community will be invited.
Course Parameters
The class is limited to 15 participants. Participants register for the class with the understanding that they are committing to the seven sessions, which are held once a week on the same day and time (Tuesdays, 1:00pm-2:30pm). While unavoidable absences are understood, the idea is to commit to the full course as the lessons build sequentially. All materials are provided by the library, except for recycled materials that participants are encouraged to bring from home.
Class Dates: Aug 6, 13, 20, 27; Sept 3, 10
