Demarest History with Borough Historian Mary Anne Clarke

Demarest History with Borough Historian Mary Anne Clarke

Join Borough Historian Mary Anne Clarke as she talks about varying Demarest History.

About the Speaker

Mary Anne Clarke is a lifelong Demarest resident, and grew up in a historic Bogert home. She was invited to join the Demarest Historical Committee when it formed and asked to be the borough historian, a position she's held for twenty-five years. As borough historian, Mary Anne was active in the Demarest Historical Society and its work on the Sautjes Taves Begraven Ground (the old burial ground) and the preparation for the restoration of the railroad station, until the Historical Society's dissolution. She was a former Elementary Teacher as well as former president of the Northern Valley Historical Society. Before the pandemic, she led fourth-graders on local history tours every year. She has worked with people around the US and in Europe to help them research Demarest, Davies, Bogert, and other family history.
