Jazz manouche or hot jazz was a style of music popular among the Romani population in France that eventually gained popularity in Paris, thanks to Romani guitarist Jean "Django" Reinhardt and French-Italian violinist, Stéphane Grappelli. A precursor to the Swing Era, this type of jazz is still popular in today's jazz scene. Grappelli was an Italian immigrant who became a French citizen. He and Django were the two most influential musicians in the era of Jazz manouche and eventually the Swing era of the 1930s and 40s.
Join Pyrenesia for this tribute performance and presentation on the life and Italian heritage of Stéphane Grappelli. The quartet, led by violinist Daniella Fischetti, will perform Grappelli's music and discuss his influence on jazz.
