Barbara Lowin is Alma Mahler in Outrageous!
Join River Vale's own Barbara Lowin, assisted at the piano by Paul Greenwood, as she brings to life Alma Mahler (1879-1964), widow of titanic Austrian composer Gustav Mahler.
In a 75-minute performance with words and music, Barbara plays Alma Mahler in her final years as she holds court in her New York living room, recounting the story of her eventful life in brief monologues, punctuated with songs from the Viennese-Austrian repertoire, including works by composers such as Arnold Schoenberg, Friedrich Hollaender and even her own compositions. She reveals truths about passionate love affairs with painters Gustav Klimt and Oskar Kokoschka, and children born in and out of wedlock.

About the performers:
Barbara Lowin - After ten years as a child star in her native Toronto, a Bachelor of Music from the Juilliard School and participation in the Master Classes with the legendary soprano Maria Callas, she sang opera, operetta, song recitals, orchestra concerts, and made numerous appearances with CBC TV in Canada. In Europe she appeared with the Welsh National Opera and the orchestras of Dusseldorf and Duisburg. Barbara has also performed for Presidents Ford and George W. Bush, as well as for Queen Elizabeth II.
Having a particular interest in songs—whether Beethoven/Mozart or Gershwin/Cle Porter—she embraced the art of "cabaret" with pianist Paul Greenwood. In their 30-year collaboration, they have performed 12 different cabaret shows together, one most recently in Vienna.
In the world of classical song, she often sang the music of titanic Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, while at the same time learning that at the turn of the 19th into 20th centuries the women of Central Europe had begun to be liberated, she decided to portray Alma Mahler, widow of Gustav Mahler in performance. Thus was born OUTRAGEOUS! which she created with Paul Greenwood and directed by Gretchen Cryer.
