Quilting Workshop

Join the talented artists from the Nubian Heritage Quilters Guild as they demonstrate a variety of quilting and related textile arts:

  • Kawandi: Learn how to hand-sew and piece a quilt from scrap fabric using a tradition from the Siddi women of Africa that creates a quilt from the outside.
  • Hand-Stitching: Learn a variety of hand-sewing techniques.
  • Image Transfer: Learn how to transfer images onto fabric.
  • Fabric Postcards: Learn how to create a postcard out of fabric.

Some stations will include opportunities for hands-on practice in addition to educational observation.

This is a drop-in workshop, no registration required and participants can stop by at any point in the program.

Open to adults, teens, and accompanied tweens

All supplies provided.

About the Nubian Heritage Quilters Guild
The Nubian Heritage Quilters (NHQG) was established in 1995 to document and preserve the rich heritage of African American quilting. An exhibit of their work, "30 Years of Quilting Our Legacy" will be on display at the West Orange Public Library through February 23.
