The Everything Book Club, "When Angels Left the Old Country" by Sascha Lamb

The Everything Book Club, "When Angels Left the Old Country" by Sascha Lamb

At the turn of the century, a demon and an angel who are best friends leave their shtetl for New York City. This queer Jewish fairy tale will captivate the reader from the first beautifully written sentence. A perfect choice for Jewish American Heritage Month.

“Steeped in Ashkenazi lore, custom, and faith, this beautifully written story deftly tackles questions of identity, good and evil, obligation, and the many forms love can take. Queerness and gender fluidity thread through both the human and supernatural characters, clearly depicted without feeling anachronistic. Gorgeous, fascinating, and fun.”Kirkus (starred)

Sacha Lamb is a 2018 Lambda Literary Fellow in young adult fiction, and has a degree in library and information sciences from Simmons University.
