RESOURCE TABLE: Department of Human Services, Office of New Americans (ONA)

Sita Laguempedo, Community Outreach Specialist for the Department of Human Services, Office of New Americans (ONA)

Covering Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Union, Sussex, and Warren Counties, working to support and connect New Jersey’s diverse immigrant communities with essential resources

The Office of New Americans (ONA) was established to enhance access to social services, including healthcare, legal rights information, and referrals to pro bono immigration legal service providers.

Key focus area: raising awareness about Cover All Kids (CAK)—an expansion of NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid) that provides health coverage to all income-eligible children under 19, regardless of immigration status

Available Resources

Our office has developed several materials for immigrants, refugees, and the organizations that support them, including:

  • ONA Programs Flyer – Available in multiple languages upon request.
  • ONA Know Your Rights – A guide for community members, organizations, and businesses (additional translations coming soon). Access here: [insert link]
  • Additional materials – Including Cover All Kids flyers, DHS general resource flyers, and ONA work authorization flyers are available for distribution.

The Office of New Americans remains committed to supporting immigrant and refugee communities, especially during these uncertain times. We welcome the opportunity to collaborate and are always available to address any questions or concerns.
