A Jewish Christmas in Chinatown: Multimedia Talk and Wonton Workshop NEW
This is a paid Adult School Class. Click here to register.
This event will celebrate the all-American tradition of Jews dining in Chinese restaurants on Christmas Day. Nancy Loo of Dumpling Diplomacy will give a multimedia talk about the historic encounters between Jews and Chinese on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and the joining of two ancient cultures in creating the tastes and sounds of Americana. Her talk will incorporate clips from the award-winning documentary film, Dreaming of a Jewish Christmas: Jewish Songwriters Composing Christmas Music (2017). In the hands-on portion of the class, we'll learn to make chicken won tons, cook them in convection ovens and break into small groups to enjoy our own won-tons in chicken soup while sharing our memories and reactions to the talk. Space is limited. Don't miss this immersive--and delicious! experience.
