Before the revolution altered the course of Cuban music, a band of young musicians in Havana in the 1950s had already begun to shake things up. In a surprising twist, the band reunited forty years later to record the songs they had left behind, and the result was the best-selling album in the history of world music. Years later, the band would become the subject of a Tony-winning Broadway musical. Feingold's presentation will focus on the musical and include clips from the 1999 documentary film Son Cubano, as well as discussion of life in Cuba in the 1950s before the revolution.

Rick Feingold oversaw the Latin Jazz series at the Performing Arts Center at Penn State University. In addition to extensive travels throughout Cuba, Feingold teaches history at Bergen Community College. Mr. Feingold has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Rutgers University and an MBA from Penn State University.
