Moral Literacy (Anti-Bullying)

Moral Literacy (Anti-Bullying)

From financial planning to social and emotional development, the Empowered Parents program series brings you different strategies to guide your child at every stage of their life and yours!

This presentation will engage parents and young people in conversations surrounding peer relationships and respect. Parents and youth explore how instances of bullying, harassment and intimidation are often linked to race, ethnicity, religion, body shape, political views, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability and learning style. Participants may also recount personal experiences as bullies and/or targets. Types of bullying are covered, as well as the mental aftermath it has on the target, such as depression, isolation, substance use and misuse, self-injury, and suicide. The goal of this presentation is to garner empathy and respect for peers, and to decrease incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying in schools and community settings.

This program presented by Dr. Tyree Oredein. Dr. Oredein has an extensive background in creating and ensuring safe spaces for sexual minority youth in academic, professional, social service, and community settings. Since 2005, she has delivered hundreds of Professional Development training workshops to more than 5,000 administrators, educators, social service & medical providers, police officers, correction officers, graduate and undergraduate students, high school students, peer educators, and community members. Dr. Oredein received her Doctorate of Public Health (Dr.P.H.) from Rutgers University and her Masters of Public Health (M.P.H) from Hunter College.
