Knitting Enrichment Class - Introduction to Knitting

Come to the Oakland Public Library and enjoy a free 1-hour knitting class for children and parents (if they wish). This class will be taught over 4 weeks, and while it is not necessary to attend all 4 sessions in order to complete the project weeks 2-4 will be necessary to learn the entire process.

Students will need to bring the following items:

A shoe box.

Knitting needles - size 8.

Stickers, paper clippings, decorations for you knit kit.

Stitch counter.

OPTIONAL: Scissors, needle points, basic crochet hook.

Week 1 - Thursday, March 5, 6:30-7:30

Introduction to the process of knitting and tools. Students will create their own "Knit Kit" which will contain the basic supplies needed for knitting projects.

Week 2 - Thursday, March 12, 6:30-7:30

Lean "casting on", basic knit stitch, and that taking apart and starting over again is ok.

Week 3 - Thursday, March 19, 6:30-7:30

Review of basic knit stitch, introduce basic purl stitch, reinforce how to read a pattern and ceate different pieces.

Week 4 - Thursday, March 26, 6:30 - 7:30

Finish up projects, troubleshoot, learn "cast off", introduce how to increase and decrease stitches.
