"Tiny Texts" Workhop with Writer, Poet and GR Resident Nicole Cooley

Spend an evening with Writer, Poet and Glen Ridge resident, Nicole Cooley, as she inspires us to explore:

"Tiny Texts: Flash Fiction, Short Poems, Micro Diaries, and One Minute Plays"

This workshop will focus on miniatures, tiny texts that play with language in wonderful, fun ways and at the same time ask us to rethink our ideas about reading and writing. We will look at short forms in early twentieth-first American writing, from haiku to prose poems to micro-fiction to diaries written on index cards. We'll discuss silence, omission, erasure, page space, and look closely at the linguistic strategies employed by texts that define themselves as “shorts.”   Gaston Bachelard famously said, “The miniscule, a narrow gate, opens up an entire world.”  Miniature texts are crucial gateways to larger questions.
