VIRTUAL The President is Dead! The Deaths & Remembrances of the American Presidents

VIRTUAL The President is Dead! The Deaths & Remembrances of the American Presidents

The Presidents of the United States of America have been written about by many historians, but only Louis Picone has focused on the unique perspective of their deaths and public remembrances from George Washington’s modest funeral at Mount Vernon in 1799 to the massive multi-day state funeral event of George H.W. Bush in 2018.

In this virtual presentation, Louis will discuss how he developed his interest in the topic and will share stories from his book The President Is Dead!: The Extraordinary Stories of Presidential Deaths, Final Days, Burials, and Beyond… such as the tragic death of James Garfield in Long Branch, New Jersey, the 20-day funeral pageant after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, and a bizarre story about the missing brain of John F. Kennedy.

Louis is also the author of  Where the Presidents Were Born: The History & Preservation of the Presidential Birthplaces. He teaches American history at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.

Registered attendees will receive information via email on how to connect to the Zoom chat room the day before the event.
