VIRTUAL Wellness Wednesdays: Mindful Eating

 

Beginning in March, the Livingston Public Library is starting a virtual program series called "Wellness Wednesdays",  in collaboration with The Department of Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS), a part of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, that will focus on topics related to food, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles. This series will walk you through the easy steps that you can take to add positive health behaviors into your day or to make some small changes that will improve your health in a large way.

All sessions will be presented on Wednesdays at 11 am by Jennifer Shukaitis, MPH, who has been a faculty member in the Department of Family and Community Health Sciences at Rutgers Cooperative Extension  since 2012.

FCHS promotes health and wellness through education, research and collaboration with outreach in food, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles.

Here are the sessions and the dates:

March 3rd: Find Added Sugars Hidden in Plain Sight

In the past several years, sugar has become increasingly prevalent in the American diet. Join this engaging workshop to learn about how your health may be affected by excess sugar, the differences between natural and added sugars, how and where to find sugars in the foods you eat (they tend to hide in sneaky places!), and how to figure out just how much sugar you are eating. 

April 14: Be A Friend to the Earth: Reduce Food Waste at Home!

We throw out about 40% of the food we grow in the United States, and much of that food waste happens at home. Come to learn about several simple ways to reduce food waste at home every day.

May 5th: Eating Healthy on a Budget

The quest for a healthy meal doesn't have to be expensive.  Learn ways to save while planning healthy meals for the entire family. 

June 2nd: Mindful Eating

Mindfulness can be a tool to improve eating behaviors and create a positive relationship with food.  Join this interactive, experiential workshop to learn about and practice mindful eating.

You can register for one or more sessions and the Zoom link will be emailed the day before each event.
