Senior Happening: Lecture-in-Song “The Golden Age of Operetta"

Senior Happening: Lecture-in-Song “The Golden Age of Operetta"

America’s cultural roots lie deeply in European soil, and this most definitely includes the glories of American Popular Song in its twentieth century heyday. Before Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, Kern, Rodgers, Hammerstein & Co., there was European Operetta filling the theatres of all the great continental capitals. From Vienna, the Strausses and Lehar; from Paris, Offenbach; from London, Gilbert & Sullivan: exotic locales, derring-do drama, gorgeously lush melodies, romance, sentiment & color at fever pitch.

The Senior Happening is a monthly series that allows attendees (“Seniors” or otherwise) to socialize during the first part of the program (12:30 until 1pm). The program and entertainment then begins at 1 pm.

Registration is required for Senior Happening. Livingston residents will be given first preference to register, beginning on October 25th.

If seats are available, guests from other Essex County towns may register starting on November 15th.

Senior Happening is made possible in part by funds from the Essex County Division of Cultural Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and through the support from the Friends of the Livingston Library.
