Renew, Restore and Rejuvenate in Body, Mind and Spirit Virtual Chair Yoga for Seniors and People with Disabilities with Eileen McGovern Carey, E-RYT-500

What is Chair Yoga? This gentle form of yoga is specially designed for seniors and people with disabilities to help them strengthen, stretch and tone the body, and to connect body, mind and spirit. Instruction will be led virtually via Zoom. Students will need a sturdy chair and an area free from clutter and noise. The class begins with a brief meditation, followed by gentle warm-ups seated and breath exercises while seated. Standing and balance poses will follow and students are encouraged to use the chair for support, or can continue following in their seats if necessary. Class will finish with a final relaxation/ mindfulness meditation.

Yoga is a conscious way to improve the quality of one’s life. It is about accepting oneself as timeless and ageless. Yoga is empowering. It boosts energy, helps improve balance, reducing the risk of falls; and increases strength, flexibility and mobility. It helps to increase mental
focus and concentration. Regular yoga practice assists in decreasing aches and pains and can help ward and control chronic conditions. It brings the practitioner into a calmer, more relaxed and peaceful state.

Equipment needed: a sturdy chair (no arms is preferable, although if a student needs more support an arm chair is beneficial), a yoga strap or tie or belt. Turn off television, radio, phones to reduce distractions.
