Kickstart Your Memoir!

You have a story to tell about your own life—but where and how to begin? Whether you want to write a full-length memoir, or short true stories about your own experiences, you can kickstart the process by learning some tools and techniques that professional memoir authors rely on. Explore some ways to get started, what to include (and leave out), and the basics of writing about real life. We’ll do a short in-class writing prompt so you’ll leave with something to build upon.

New Jersey writer Lisa Romeo is the author of the memoir Starting With Goodbye (University of Nevada Press). Her work is listed in Best American Essays, and has been published in the New York Times, O The Oprah Magazine, and dozens of literary journals, magazines, and websites. She is a creative writing teacher, freelance editor, and writing coach. Learn more at her website.
