Jaime Domínguez Montes, LATIN CELEBRATION PART I - Art from Home

HONORING LATINO/LATINA AMERICAN ARTISTS
During the month of September, the art class will do projects that celebrate Latino American artists and their work. In each class, a
Latino artist will be introduced, their work will be discussed and viewed, and a project inspired by each particular artist will be offered
for students to work on.

SEPTEMBER 1, 2021
The first artist we will look at and study is Mexican American Jaime Domínguez Montes. Mexican artist Jaime Domínguez is known
for his minimalist work that is great for students who love color and design. His designs are laced with architecture and geometry.
He draws inspiration from Mexican crafts and indigenous art. While his own process is rooted in research, some students will find it
refreshing. He’s “more interested in the viewer appreciating my work for its appearance and aesthetics, than trying to understand
and explain it academically.” Students will create their own minimalist color field paintings.
