Pysanky (Ukrainian Egg Decorating) Workshop for Adults

Pysanky (Ukrainian Egg Decorating) Workshop for Adults

Pysanky (Ukrainian egg decorating) is an ancient tradition that is both art and prayer and usually passed down from the Matriarch of a family.

In this workshop led by seasoned egg artist Jenny Santa Maria, participants will learn the techniques, the designs, and the historical significance of this art form  and participate in the creation of a decorated egg.

You will discover how to create designs using beeswax and dyes that are applied in layers, and go home with a unique self crafted egg.

Besides being a passionate practitioner of the art, Jennifer is a high school art teacher who teaches Ukrainian egg decorating and techniques in a variety of settings to a wide audience, from children to seniors.

No experience is necessary. All supplies will be provided, but please bring an apron or old shirt and an egg carton to bring your egg home in.

The workshop is open to Livingston Library card holders 18 and over; space is limited and registration is required.

It is made possible with the support of the Friends of the Livingston Public Library.
