Happy 213th Birthday, Edgar Allan Poe!

Happy 213th Birthday, Edgar Allan Poe!

Take a look at the life of America’s favorite troubled soul as the West Orange Public Library celebrates Edgar Allan Poe’s birthday on January 19. The 19th Century poet, fiction writer, editor and literary critic is best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre and was one of the earliest American writers of the short story. He even helped develop modern code cracking, a tool that helped the Allies win World War II. Join West Orange resident and independent Poe scholar Ava Caridad as we learn more about Poe, his troubled life and times and his contribution to many of our modern ways of thinking. Suitable for adults and children.

Ava Caridad holds a Masters Degree in 19th Century American Literature from Rutgers University. She is the Editor of The New Town Crier: Official Newsletter of The Historical Society of Bloomfield, NJ and a contributing book reviewer for The Edgar Allan Poe Review from Penn State University Press. She is a recipient of the Kevin M. Hale Publication Award and the Emily Greenaway Creative Writing Award.
