Artist Robert Indiana. Art at Home with Liz- Hope and New Beginnings on Zoom

JANUARY 2022 - ART AT HOME WITH THE HOBOKEN PUBLIC LIBRARY - HOPE AND NEW BEGINNINGS

We ordinarily think of January and the new calendar year as a time of hope and new beginnings. When you Google “artists who use hope symbolically in their work” the internet will send you into the world of many different exciting artists. Their work will be a starting point and inspiration for what we will create during our time in January 2022 with the sponsorship of The Hoboken Public Library in their art series called “Art at Home.” This theme of hope and new beginnings will give each participant a fresh new perspective on their own work and perhaps challenge us all to move forward in an optimistic and concerted effort to right our COVID confinement ship!

On January 19, the artist of focus will be Robert Indiana and his iconic painting of Hope. Robert Indiana was an American artist associated with the pop art movement. His "LOVE" print, first created for the Museum of Modern Art's Christmas card in 1965, was the basis for his 1970 Love sculpture and the widely distributed 1973 United States Postal Service "LOVE" stamp. Each in class artist will chose a meaning full word and use the word’s letters to create an image based on the shapes of these letters - moving and manipulating the directions and forms of the letters to create their own iconic image.
