Artist Laylah Ali for Liz's Art at Home Celebration of Women's History Month

Artist Laylah Ali for Liz's Art at Home Celebration of Women's History Month

For the month of March, 2022, our Art at Home classes will focus on the contributions of women in the visual arts. During each class we will spend time talking about the life and accomplishments of one singular female artist, look at and discuss her work, and then do an art project inspired by her style, aesthetic, or concept.

PLEASE REGISTER BELOW TO RECEIVE THE ZOOM LINK 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE CLASS BEGINS. THE SAME ZOOM LINK IS VALID FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH ONLY.

We will look at the work of Laylah Ali. Laylah Ali was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1968, and lives and works in Williamstown, Massachusetts. She received a BA from Williams College and an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The precision with which Ali creates her small, figurative, gouache paintings on paper is such that it takes her many months to complete a single work. She meticulously plots out every aspect of her work in advance, from subject matter to choice of color and the brushes that she will use. After discussing the need for design and planning in the creative process and whether or not it fits with our own personal style, we will create drawings that are small and precise in their overall format.
