George Washington, New Jersey, and The Revolutionary War - Hybrid

Historian, Joel Farkas will discuss George Washington’s military career and the history behind the Revolutionary War in New Jersey.

During the American Revolutionary War, the New York and New Jersey campaign was a series of battles between British forces under General Sir William Howe and the Continental Army under General George Washington for control of the Port of New York and the state of New Jersey in 1776 and the winter months of 1777.

George Washington was certainly central to The Revolutionary War. In many ways, so was New Jersey . This lecture looks at both George Washington’s military career starting in 1754 as a 21 year old major in the Virginia militia, and a history of the Revolutionary War including the military battles and winter encampments in New Jersey.

So what led George Washington to spend so much time in New Jersey?

Mr. Farkas is a graduate of The Ohio State University and was a US Army officer. He is a student of the American Revolution and a popular lecturer on a variety of topics pertaining to Revolutionary War, and the early days of the Republic. He is a volunteer guide at the Ford Mansion at Morristown National Historical Park.
