In partnership with CRUE (The Coalition of Racial Unity and Equity), the Library will be screening Lee Mun Wah's film The Color of Fear in the Library's Mackay Room downstairs. The film depicts eight men of various ethnicities discussing issues of race. They all come from different backgrounds, which makes their discussion quite interesting—if at times very heated.
There will be a group discussion after the film.
The moderators for the discussion will be May Kwon, Deborah Manning, Esperanza Pacheco and Dan Sheehan.
May Kwon has been a Library Associate and Korean Language Specialist for 13 years. She has coordinated many Korean Cultural programs for the community.
Deborah Manning is the Dean of Adjunct Administration and an Adjunct Professor of Sociology for Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ. Deborah serves on the President's Advisory Council for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Bergen Community College. Deborah has a Doctorate in Education and is a published author. Dr. Manning has written for Diverse Issues in Higher Education, an online publication. Her article titled, Culturally Responsive Teaching: A Case Study at Community College of Baltimore County, gives an expose on how Instructors can help to bridge the gaps by engaging students from underrepresented cultures.
Esperanza Pacheco is the Director of the Englewood Public Library. In addition to initiating the Human Library locally, she is passionate about diversity in Englewood.
Dan Sheehan has been performing and recording as a professional guitarist and singer throughout the United States since the 1990s as a solo performer and with the groups The Dan Sheehan Conspiracy and Banter. In addition to his own music Dan has done production work at studios and venues in New York City and Boston.
