Celebrating Contemporary Native American Artists... Art with Liz - Featured Artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith
The Hoboken Public Library is happy to announce that the theme for Art with Liz’s classes for the
month of November will Contemporary Native American Artists. The number of contemporary native
artists gaining recognition in the contemporary art scene is growing and when better to honor them
during the time of Thanksgiving when our history with the Native American population of this
country is fraught.
For the first Wednesday in November we will look at the art of Jaune Quick-To- See
Smith. She is one of the veteran artists on the scene and one of the best known in the group I have
chosen for us to study. She is an artist who brings to the forefront in her work her political
beliefs about the status of native Americans now and in the past. She blends the traditions of her
tribal culture with the training she received in more European style art classes to beautiful effect
in her very lyrical images. We will create in class our own paintings inspired by her style.
Classes will be held in person at our library's main branch, located at 500 Park Ave, in the lower level, and virtually. Visit our website for updates at HobokenLibrary.org
