DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Native Gardening: The importance and benefits 
 of native plants and how using native plants in home gardens provides the 
 environment with connected habitats for conservation. Comprehensive review 
 of New Jersey native plant species including trees\, shrubs and perennials 
 and where to source them.\n\nLecture presented by Essex County Master 
 Gardener\, Karen Fricke:\n\nBorn on a farm in central Illinois\, Karen 
 Fricke was digging in the dirt before she could walk.\nThrough her years as 
 a magazine editor\, high school teacher\, graduate student\, 
 stay-at-home\nmom to four\, and fiber artist\, she always found her way 
 outside to the garden. She became a\nMaster Gardener in Maryland in 2014\, 
 and worked at a plant nursery\, where she developed and\nran their 
 educational workshop program. Karen and her husband moved to New Jersey in 
 2022\nto be closer to children and grandchildren\, and she transferred to 
 the Essex County Master\nGardeners program\, where she lectures for their 
 Speakers Program on the importance of\nincorporating Native Plants in our 
 home gardens.
