SUMMARY:VIRTUAL  Famous African American Artists
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\nIn honor of Black History Month\, the Livingston 
 Public Library is presenting an illustrated  virtual art talk by art 
 lecturer Suzanne Altman on some well known African American artists.\n\n 
 African Americans have made their mark on the art world since colonial 
 times\, though their contributions have often been overlooked. This slide 
 lecture spotlights many of the most important painters\, sculptors and 
 photographers\, including several who are still active. Some of the artists 
 included are Jacob Lawrence\, Augusta Savage\, Faith Ringold\, Betye Saar\, 
 Jean-Michel Basquiat\, and many more.\n\nTheir works often comment on  the 
 history of people of color and other marginalized groups in American 
 society.  Altman will highlight works such as Jacob Lawrence’s Great 
 Migration series\, Faith Ringolds colorful quilts\, and  Kara Walker’s 
 powerful sihouettes depicting brutal scenes of slavery.\n\nSuzanne Altman 
 is an art educator and art historian who has presented art and art history 
 programs in various venues to adult and teenage audiences. She is also a 
 painter who works out of her studio and art school in Ossining\, NY and 
 exhibits frequently.\n\nRegistered attendees will receive information on 
 how to connect to the Zoom chat room the day before the event.\n\nThis
